Mercedes-Benz Trucks has presented new versions of its most popular Actros truck at the IAA Transportation 2022 in Hanover. The presented models Actros L, Actros L Edition 3 and Actros F Plus have become even more economical, safer and more comfortable.
To begin with, the trucks will be available with the third-generation 12.8-liter OM471 turbodiesel engine from October 2022. Thanks to a more economical turbocharger, an upgraded SCR system and an automatic transmission with a new PowerShift Advanced control algorithm (smoother and faster shifting), fuel consumption is reduced by 4%.
The Actros L model provides maximum comfort and is available with 2.5 m wide cabs – StreamSpace, BigSpace and the top GigaSpace with a completely flat floor. Various electronic driver assistants are installed. This includes the Active Assist Brake 5 automatic braking system with pedestrian detection. And the Active Drive Assist 2 system, which provides autonomous control of the second level. There is a new function – Emergency Stop Assist, which activates automatic braking if the driver does not touch the steering wheel for a certain time and does not respond to warning signals.
It is also worth noting the Mirror Cam 2 camera system instead of the usual mirrors, which began to be installed in April 2022. Unlike the first generation system, the external cameras received shorter brackets, which improved visibility, especially when reversing. And the Active Sidequard Assist system will help to avoid hitting pedestrians or cyclists when turning the car, using automatic braking at speeds up to 20 km/h. LED headlights are available for the Actros L.
